The Oregon Ducks are the new unanimous No. 1 team in the nation.
Then-No. 2 Oregon (7-0, 4-0 Big Ten) kept its perfect record Friday night with a 35-0 win against Purdue, something previous No. 1 Texas was unable to do Saturday in a 30-15 loss to Georgia at home.
The payoff came Sunday morning when both the US LBM Coaches Poll and The Associated Press media poll moved the Ducks into the top spot of the respective polls, with Oregon receiving 51 of the 53 first-place votes in the coaches poll and 59 of the 61 first-place votes in the AP poll.
It’s the first time Oregon has been ranked No. 1 since Nov. 11, 2012, when it rose to the top of the week 12 AP poll before losing the following week to Stanford. The Ducks were No. 1 in 2010 for seven straight weeks before slipping to No. 2 in the final AP poll of the regular season.
Oregon will play Illinois at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Autzen Stadium. The Illini (6-1, 3-1) are coming off a 21-7 win against Michigan on Saturday and are ranked No. 21 in the coaches poll and No. 20 in the AP poll.
Georgia (6-1) moved up two spots to No. 2 in the coaches poll, followed by No. 3 Penn State (6-0), No. 4 Ohio State (5-1), No. 5 Miami (7-0), No. 6 Texas (6-1), No. 7 LSU (6-1), No. 8 Tennessee (6-1), No. 9 Clemson (6-1) and No. 10 Iowa State (7-0).
