Herbstreit. Lorenzen. Alexander.

Famous, iconic football names, each of which can be found on a high school football roster around Greater Cincinnati. Many notable people, especially athletes, currently call Cincinnati home, and a few of them even have sons or nephews playing high school football around the area.

From St. Xavier to Purcell Marian to Cincinnati Country Day to Highlands and more, many area teams feature the relative of someone famous. Here is a list of high school football players around Cincinnati with recognizable relatives:

Austin Alexander, Cooper

Austin Alexander (4) is expected to play defensive end at North Carolina, but he is a two-way star for Cooper High School.

Uncle: Shaun Alexander, former nine-season NFL running back, 2005 NFL MVP.

Austin Alexander, a senior, is a star tight end and defensive end for the undefeated Cooper Jaguars. A consensus four-star recruit in the class of 2025, he committed to North Carolina over offers from UC, Kentucky, Notre Dame, Stanford and Tennessee, among many others.

So far this season, he’s Cooper’s second-leading receiver with 453 receiving yards and six touchdowns. On defense, he leads Cooper with eight sacks and seven tackles for loss, and he’s also recorded 27 total tackles.

Shaun Alexander wears his blue Boone County football uniform; date of picture unknown.

During his playing days, Austin’s uncle Shaun Alexander was one of the most electrifying players of his generation. One of only four non-quarterbacks to win the NFL MVP award this century (along with Marshall Faulk, LaDainian Tomlinson and Adrian Peterson), Alexander rushed for 1,880 yards (5.1 yards per carry) and 27 touchdowns in 2005, his MVP season. He’s one of nine players in NFL history with 100 rushing touchdowns, but he still has not been inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
