Two former Penn State football players face felony rape, other charges

Two former Penn State football players − both dismissed from the university in August − will face felony charges in Centre County Court.

Court documents filed Tuesday show that former defensive players Jameial Lyons and Kaveion Keys will be charged with felony rape, aggravated indecent assault, sexual assault and other misdemeanor charges. The Centre Daily Times first reported that the docket sheets for Lyons and Keys were online.

Both are scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday with preliminary hearings set for Oct. 30. The charges come a few days before the No. 3 Nittany Lions (6-0, 3-0 Big Ten) play at Wisconsin.

Criminal complaints detailing the charges have not yet been released.

The charges, however, do stem from a July 7 incident, according to court documents, and both were no longer part of the team when preseason camp opened a few weeks later. Penn State officials confirmed on Aug. 3 that both also had been dismissed from the university.

Penn State defensive end Jameial Lyons (19) pursues Delaware quarterback Zach Marker during the second of a NCAA football game Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, in State College, Pa.

Both players had been expected to be significant contributors on new coordinator Tom Allen’s defense this season.

Lyons, a sophomore defensive end from Philadelphia, played in eight games last year and registered six tackles, including 2.5 for loss. He was rated a four-star recruit by national recruiting services and ranked as the nation’s No. 33 edge rusher prospect by 247Sports.
