After losses to Vanderbilt and Tennessee, former Alabama football running back and Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry said the Crimson Tide’s “back is against the wall.” But to Henry, that doesn’t change the mentality of this Alabama football team.
In an appearance on “The Triple Option” podcast with former Alabama running back and Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram, Henry, now a running back for the Baltimore Ravens, called for the Crimson Tide to not be defined by the adversity the two losses brought.
To Henry, Alabama is not far off from the team that beat Georgia, from the team that Alabama has historically been.
“I still feel like y’all the same Bama team,” Henry said. “Y’all can play defense, you can score from anywhere on the field. You got everything you need to be a championship-caliber team. You just got to go out there and do it.”
In three seasons at Alabama, Henry had 3,591 rushing yards and 45 touchdowns. He was an All-American, Maxwell Award winner and the Heisman in 2015 with a Division 1-leading 2,219 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns.
From 2013-15, Alabama lost five games: Auburn and Oklahoma in 2013, Ole Miss and Ohio State in 2014, and Ole Miss in 2015. The Crimson Tide won a national championship with Henry in 2015.

Watching the past three games against Vanderbilt, South Carolina and Tennessee, Henry said the Crimson Tide was “thinking” too much. Instead, he called for Kalen DeBoer and Alabama to “just go,” to play with confidence.
“We Bama,” Henry said. “There’s no question we’re Bama, man. Go get what you want.”
