Louisville football WR Caullin Lacy to redshirt remainder of 2024 season | Report

(This story has been updated with new information).

Louisville football receiver Caullin Lacy has opted out of the remainder of the season with the intent to redshirt, as originally reported by 247Sports and confirmed by the university to Alexis Cubit of The Courier-Journal.

Lacy, a transfer from South Alabama, arrived with the Cardinals after having played four seasons with the Jaguars, where in the 2023 college football season he led the Sun Belt in receiving yards and was a first-team member of the all-conference team. He caught 91 passes for 1,316 yards and seven touchdowns in 2023, per his former South Alabama bio.

Lacy was not able to replicate that success early in his Louisville tenure. He broke his collarbone in mid-August, and was not able to see the field this season until Louisville’s game at Notre Dame on Sept. 28, the Cardinals’ fourth game of the year.

Under NCAA rules, Lacy — who has one year of eligibility left — can retain his final year of eligibility if he does not play in more than four games this season. He has appeared in every game this season after his first appearance vs. Notre Dame. Louisville’s 52-45 loss to Miami on Saturday was his fourth of the season.

247Sports did not specify whether Lacy intended to return to Louisville or transfer elsewhere.

Caullin Lacy stats

Receiving: 15 catches for 179 yards

Rushing: Three attempts for 11 yards

Kick returns: Five returns for 191 yards, one touchdown

Lacy will finish the 2024 season with 15 catches for 179 yards and no touchdowns, though he did make his presence felt as a kick returner. He returned five kicks in five games for 191 yards, including a 100-yard touchdown vs. Miami on Saturday.
