Big Ten breakdown | Week 9

Oct. 25—Illinois is again involved in the only ranked matchup in the Big Ten this week with a chance at top-ranked Oregon. Beat writer Scott Richey ranks all eight matchups, along with his picks for Illinois MVP, Big Ten MVP and thoughts on the latest bowl game projections:

Who’s on the call: Brad Nessler (play-by-play), Gary Danielson (expert analysis) and Jenny Dell (sideline reports).

Who wins: Oregon, 35-17. The Ducks have, without a doubt, the most dynamic offense Illinois has faced all season. Slowing down quarterback Dillon Gabriel and Co. in front of a raucous Autzen Stadium crowd seems like a long shot.

Nebraska (5-2, 2-2) at No. 4 Ohio State (5-1, 2-1), 11 a.m., Saturday, Fox

Who’s on the call: Gus Johnson (play-by-play), Joel Klatt (expert analysis) and Jenny Taft (sideline reports).

Who wins: Ohio State, 52-14. The Buckeyes with two weeks to prepare off a bye against a Nebraska team that just gave up 56 points to Indiana seems like a disaster in the making for the Cornhuskers.

Who’s on the call: Guy Haberman (play-by-play), Yogi Roth (expert analysis) and Rhett Lewis (sideline reports).

Who wins: Indiana, 31-20. No Kurtis Rourke at quarterback could be a problem for the Hoosiers, but Tayven Jackson looked solid in his stead closing out last week’s win against Nebraska by completing 7 of 8 passes for 91 yards and two touchdowns.

Who’s on the call: Noah Eagle (play-by-play), Todd Blackledge (expert analysis) and Kathryn Tappen (sideline reports).

Who wins: Penn State, 28-21. It’s easy to glance at Wisconsin’s results and feel like the Badgers have things figured out. But beating Purdue, Rutgers and Northwestern consecutively tarnishes that streak a bit. The Nittany Lions are much tougher competition.
