Could LSU football get WR Chris Hilton back from injury for Texas A&M game? What we know

BATON ROUGE — LSU football coach Brian Kelly told reporters Thursday that senior wide receiver Chris Hilton practiced with the team earlier in the afternoon.

While Hilton did make his way through drills, the Tigers coach was noncommittal on whether the speedster would be available to play for No. 7 LSU (6-1, 3-0 SEC) at No. 14 Texas A&M (6-1, 4-0) inside Kyle Field on Saturday night (6:30 p.m., ABC).

“He was in full capacity (at practice Thursday),” Kelly said.

On LSU’s first student-athlete availability report released by the SEC on Wednesday night, Hilton carried a questionable tag, much like he had the past couple of weeks. On Thursday, Kelly said it’s likely that Hilton will still be listed as questionable to play this weekend.

“This has been a slow process. I think more than anything else, getting a wide receiver back after this long, we’re not concerned about the leg anymore and he’s not concerned about the leg anymore,” Kelly said. “This is much more about conditioning relative to soft tissue.

“We feel like we’re in a pretty good position there. Now this is just getting him game ready.”

Hilton has not been able to play so far this season after suffering a stress fracture during the preseason. The 6-foot, 192-pound wideout was expected to be a starter for the Tigers this season and is the receiver that has the speed to take the lid off defenses in the deep passing game.
