Redshirt freshman Nico Iamaleava is 7-1 as Tennessee’s starting quarterback dating to the 2024 Citrus Bowl against Iowa.
Through seven contests in 2024, Iamaleava has completed 108-of-170 passing attempts for 1,413 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions. The 6-foot-6, 215-pound signal-caller has also recorded 179 rushing yards and one touchdown on 53 attempts.
During the Vols’ open date in Week 9, Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel discussed what advice he would give Iamaleava from a former quarterback perspective.
“It’s a position that is never going to be perfect,” Heupel said. “Ultimately, quarterbacks get judged on wins and losses no matter what it’s looking like. Being able to go lay it on the line, play aggressive, play the next play, those are the biggest things that we continue to talk about with him. We are really proud of what he did in the second half against Alabama.”
