It’s the final week of the 2024 regular season in the Lancaster-Lebanon football league and there are several Berks teams playing for section titles.
In Section 1 on Friday night, Wilson (5-0, 8-1) travels to Manheim Township (5-0, 9-0) with the section title on the line, and in Berks County on Friday, Schuylkill Valley (6-0, 7-2) hosts Lancaster Catholic (5-1, 6-3) after already clinching at least a share of the Section 5 title.
Wrapping up the action on Saturday, Wyomissing (6-0, 8-1) will host Lampeter-Strasburg (6-0, 9-0) at 1:30 p.m. for sole possession of Section 4. In addition, the Spartans can extend their winning streak at home to 36 games.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 56-7 win over McCaskey, while the Blue Streaks won 42-14 against Penn Manor a week ago.
Manheim Township is led by senior running back Declan Clancy who carried the ball 15 times for 103 yards and four touchdowns against Penn Manor. Junior wide receiver Daryus Dixon caught four passes for 102 yards and two touchdowns in the same game. Senior quarterback Carson Weisser was 12-for-14 passing against the Comets with 193 passing yards and the two touchdowns to Dixon.
Over the Blue Streaks’ 9-game winning streak, they have outscored opponents 252-69.
“They have a nice team,” Wilson coach Doug Dahms said. “They’re good offensively, and defensively, and on special teams. Obviously the first thing we have to do is stop Clancy at running back. He’s the real deal. He’s physical, he’s fast, and he’s tough to bring down. You take him out of the mix, and then they’re forced to throw the ball.
“That fits more into our scheme of things. Offensively, I think we have to control the front three, because they’re beasts. They play the 3-2 and those three down linemen are really big, they’re fast and they’re physical.”
