Texas football to be without two starters when Longhorns take on Vanderbilt

Texas football will be without a pair of key contributors when it takes the field against Vanderbilt on Saturday.

The Longhorns ruled out wide receiver Isaiah Bond and defensive back Andrew Mukuba on an SEC-mandated availability report released Friday night.

Both had been labeled doubtful on Thursday’s report.

THE KEY TO A TEXAS WIN: What Texas football must fix to get back to winning ways against Vanderbilt

Bond is the Longhorns’ leading receiver with 380 receiving yards and four touchdowns to his name on the season. He injured his ankle against Oklahoma and played last week against Georgia but did not deliver an impactful performance. Steve Sarkisian said Thursday that the Longhorns would decide between pushing Bond against the Commodores and allowing him the extra week of recovery that comes with Texas’ bye week next week. Their decision is now clear.

Mukuba left last week’s game against Georgia with a knee injury. With Derek Williams Jr. already out for the season, the Longhorns are looking thin at safety. Michael Taaffe and Jelani McDonald should get the start there on Saturday.
