Colorado football moved to 6-2 and became bowl eligible Saturday night with a 34-23 victory against Cincinnati at Folsom Field in Boulder.
What could have very easily been a moment for coach Deion Sanders to gloat came with a different kind of request.
“Don’t rank us, please,” Sanders said after the game during his news conference. “We don’t like that. We’d rather be in the back in the dark, just chillin’.”

The victory over the Bearcats was the Buffaloes’ fifth in their past six games following a humbling 28-10 loss at rival Nebraska in Week 2.
Fewer than two full years after inheriting a program that went 1-11 and lost all but one of those games by at least 23 points, Sanders has Colorado headed to a bowl for just the third time since 2007. Whether that sixth win leads to a spot in one of the major national polls remains to be seen. The Buffs did not receive any votes in last week’s US LBM Coaches Poll or AP Top 25. If Sanders gets his wish, it will remain that way.
The Buffs have potentially bigger goals than earning a number next to their name.

At 4-1 in conference play, Colorado is tied for second in the Big 12 standings with Kansas State, which beat the Buffs 31-28 on October 12 in Boulder. It has just one game remaining against a team with a winning record — a Nov. 9 matchup at 5-3 Texas Tech — making a nine- or 10-win season a possibility. Should that occur, the Buffs could be in position to make the Big 12 championship game. A win there would send them to the College Football Playoff.
