420 rushing yards and state trophies: Vote for Journal Star athlete of the week for Oct. 21-26

After plenty of solid fall sports performers over the last week, here are the Journal Star high school athlete of the week nominees for Oct. 21-26.

Brogan Benassi, Pekin football

The junior quarterback put together an impressive Week 9. Benassi threw for 208 yards and five touchdowns on 9-for-11 passing in a 62-20 win over East Peoria. Pekin (7-2) heads into the Class 7A playoffs on a five-game win streak and hosts New Lenox Lincoln-Way West (6-3) at 7 p.m. Friday.

Jimmy Lollar, Olympia football

The running back put together a school-record effort in a Week 9 win. Lollar rushed for 420 yards and five touchdowns in beating Auburn, 66-44. His yardage mark sets the all-time single-season program record and is just outside of the top 20 IHSA single-game performances. The Spartans (6-3) head to Nashville (8-1) at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs.

Addison Pacha, Metamora volleyball

The senior closed out the regular season in a big way last Thursday. Pacha posted a double-double — 16 kills and 12 digs — as Metamora beat Dunlap, 23-25, 25-20, 25-14 at Bradley University’s Renaissance Coliseum. Her week started last Tuesday with a 12-kill effort to beat East Peoria,…
