A strong performance on both sides of the ball propelled the visiting East Forsyth varsity football team to a 49-6 win over Central Piedmont 4-A and crosstown rival Glenn on Friday night.
The Eagles bolted out to a 28-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and a commanding 42-0 lead at halftime. The Bobcats only points came on an interception return in the fourth quarter.
Eagles Head Coach Todd Willert was proud of the defensive effort
“We shut them down on defense. They got a pick six, but I felt really good about how our defense played. They are getting better and better each week and we will definitely need a strong performance from them when we play West Forsyth on Friday,” he said.
East’s offense was balanced and effective. Quarterback Bryce Baker completed 16 of 21 passes for 224 yards and threw four touchdowns. Jaire Richburg caught six passes for 103 yards and one touchdown, and JP Gilchrist caught three passes for 48 yards and one touchdown. East ran for 218 yards on 19 carries. Eagles running back Cannen Rottweiler ran four times for 95 yards and one touchdown.
“In the first half we did a lot of good things on offense. We spread the ball around, and a lot of different guys got touches. I think it showed our options. As long as we don’t have a lot of penalties and hurt ourselves, our offense is really dangerous,” Willert said.
The undefeated Eagles (9-0, 6-0 CP 4-A) will host West Forsyth on Friday at 7:30 p.m. It will be Senior Night for East Forsyth and also will be the My48 televised game of the week. If East wins it be the CP 4-A Conference champions. If West wins then the Eagles and Titans will be conference co-champions.
The East Forsyth JV game has been moved from Thursday (Halloween) to Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at West Forsyth.
