Texas A&M (7-1, 5-0 SEC) is still atop the SEC standings after earning the program’s statement win of the season by defeating the LSU Tigers on Saturday night. Backup quarterback Marcel Reed entered the game in the second half, providing a huge jolt to the offense.
Due to Reed’s Lamar Jackson-like speed and perfect fit in OC Collin Klein’s run scheme, the redshirt freshman produced three touchdowns on the ground while leading the Aggie offense to five consecutive scoring drives during A&M’s incredible 31-6 second-half scoring run.
Defensively, senior cornerback BJ Mayes played one of the best games of his career, recording two interceptions while earning one of the highest coverage grades on the weekend per Pro Football Focus. Linebacker Taurean York earned the highest PFF grade at his postion while also notching his first interception of the year.
On Monday, head coach Mike Elko spoke to the media alongside defensive lineman Albert Regis and starting left tackle Trey Zuhn III. Here is what both players had to say.
