Florida Recruiting: Florida, Miami, FSU still chasing Texas DL commit Myron Charles

Port Charlotte hurdled one of the largest obstacles in recent Pirate memory on Friday night, downing Naples at Staver field on the way to winning the District 4A-12 title.

The 21-18 win was especially sweet for Port Charlotte. The Pirates’ season had ended at Staver Field in the playoffs for the last two years, with last season’s loss coming as particularly hard to stomach. Shawn Simeon set a state playoff record for most touchdowns in a single game after scoring seven touchdowns on 30 carries with 387 yards.

But Port Charlotte wouldn’t let that happen again.

The Golden Eagles entered the game averaging 364 rushing yards per game, and the Pirates allowed just 142 rushing yards on 31 attempts. After stuffing the stat sheet in their last meeting, Simeon was held to just 72 rushing yards on 15 attempts while coughing up two lost fumbles. Leading the charge was defensive lineman Myron Charles, alongside King Justice.

“It was just great coaching, just seeing things coaches really don’t,” Charles said after the win. “Including me, we have another four dominant D-Linemen. Me and King Justice, I mean, it’s hard to stop that. Two Power-5 D-Linemen on the inside, it’s kind of hard to run that little dive play… This is huge. Losing to these guys two years back-to-back in the playoffs – I mean it’s the first three-peat district championship in school history and we get the No. 1 seed. Man, this is so much in a game.”
