By the numbers: A look into Jarquez Hunter’s incredible season

Auburn running back Jarquez Hunter has been one of the best running backs in the SEC this season and was rewarded last Saturday with 278 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries in Auburn’s 24-10 win over Kentucky, all season-highs.

Following his performance, Hunter found himself at the top of the SEC in rushing yards with 863, 25 yards more than Tennessee’s Dylan Sampson through week nine of the college football season. His head coach was pleased with Hunter’s game, calling it one of the best performances in school history.

“Jarquez (Hunter’s) performance, one of the best in school history,” Hugh Freeze said during Monday’s press conference. “I think it’s the most rushing yards in SEC play in Auburn history, is what I was told. Fourth-most in school history, and his second-half performance is the best in school history. That’s great for Jarquez. I think he took the lead in rushing in the SEC after the game. He’ll be announced as offensive player of the week today.”
