Oct. 29—Cumberland swept the Mid-South Conference weekly honors Monday as quarterback Luke Holloway earned Offensive Player of the Week, cornerback Kion Threalkill was named Defensive Player of the Week and kicker Jack Kantner garnered Special Teams Player of the Week, conference officials announced.
Holloway earned his third OPW after leading the Phoenix to 49-points in a win over the Cumberlands. Holloway accounted for four touchdowns and accumulated 269 yards of total offense. Holloway completed 7 of 14 passing for 143 yards and one touchdown. He was lethal running the football carrying it 11 times for 126 yards and three touchdowns. His touchdown runs came at 65, 42 and 3 yards out.
Threalkill had a great game in the secondary earning MSC Defensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career. He had two interceptions, five tackles with 0.5 a tackle for loss and one pass break up. He not only had two interceptions, but returned them both deep down field, one he took to the 1-yard line to set up a CU touchdown the next play and the other he took the house, but a penalty behind him called off the touchdown. Threalkill and the defense forced four turnovers in the win over the Patriots.
Kantner earned the Mid-South Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for the first time in his career. He was a perfect 7-for-7 on PAT’s. He also had two tackles on kickoff saving one from a sure touchdown.
