WEST LAFAYETTE — It’s been nearly a full month since Hudson Card took in-game snaps.
For others expected to play Saturday against Northwestern, it’s been even longer.
Tight end George Burhenn’s only game this season was the season opener against Indiana State on Aug. 31. The last time receiver CJ Smith played in a game, he was at another school, suiting up for Georgia last December against Florida State.
Coming out of a week off, can the use of two quarterbacks combined with more playmakers and more time to prepare provide a desperately needed boost to Purdue football’s offense?
“We’re kind of changing it up a little bit and mixing some new things in there, which is, I think, good, and it’s kind of a fresh start in a way,” Card said.
During the Boilermakers’ current six-game losing streak, the offense has barely showed life aside from one half at Illinois.

Take away Purdue’s 49 points scored at Champaign and the Boilers put up a combined 44 points over five losses.
The Boilermakers are optimistic the offense they believed they’d showcase this season can still be unleashed.
There’s no better time than right now, coming off an idle week and against a Wildcats team that’s struggling.

But why the optimism after being shut out for the first time in 11 years their last time out?
