The SEC is cracking down on players faking injuries.
According to multiple reports on Friday, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey sent an email to league coaches and athletic directors that the league will start administering fines to teams that fake injuries for competitive advantage. Sankey said the league moving forward will submit video to the NCAA’s National Coordinator for officials in circumstances where a feigned injury might have occurred.

Sankey also noted that each play that might be a faked injury won’t be reviewed by the SEC and must be submitted for review. He also noted the SEC will continue to give players the benefit of the doubt when it comes to injuries.
The SEC will decide on fines based on whether the National Coordinator believes it was “more likely than not” a player faked an injury.
Sankey also added details of the degrees of fines in the email.
The first violation will result in a public reprimand of the team’s head coach, along with a $50,000 fine to the school. The second violation will result in another public reprimand of the head coach, along with a $100,000 fine, before rising to a $150,000 fine for the third violation and each that follows.
However, the third violation would also result in the head coach receiving a one-game suspension for the team’s next game. Other involved staff members would also receive a suspension for a third violation. The email also stated players could receive public reprimands if they’re in violation of the penalty.
Sankey ended the email with a clear message.
“Play football and stop the feigned injury nonsense.”
Sankey’s email also read: “Creating injury time-outs in these circumstances is not acceptable and is disrespectful to the game of college football.”
