Indiana State is getting prepared to face North Dakota in Missouri Valley Football Conference action Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
ISU coach Curt Mallory said the Sycamores’ 20-17 victory over Southern Illinois last Saturday was a great win.
“Really proud of the players, the coaches, coming together fighting throughout the game, coming back out in the second half down 17 and coming back and having a great victory at homecoming,” Mallory said.
It was the third time ISU has trailed by 17 or more at the halftime break, but the first time this season they’ve come back from that deficit.
North Dakota is a top team at the FCS level and Mallory knows that. He has a tremendous amount of respect for Bubba Schweigert, head coach for the Fighting Hawks, and how they do things.
“They’re a great football team,” Mallory said. “They’re ranked in the top 10 for a reason. They’re really good on offense. They’re really good on defense. They move the ball up and down the field throughout the year.”
Going into Saturday’s game, Mallory said the Sycamores need to start fast.
They’ve struggled to start fast in those three games where they trailed by 17 or more at the halftime break before rallying in the second half and ultimately winning last Saturday. He also said they have to take care of the football.
“We took care of the football in the second half,” Mallory said. “Created three turnovers and resulted in 20 points. We have to continue that and the last thing is we have to have consistency throughout the whole game.”
Mallory said he thought his players and coaches adjusted really well at halftime. He said they had some plays that he thought would work and they certainly did, noting their offensive run game.
