Even with four games remaining, it’s impossible to summarize all of the different postseason permutations that remain in play for Texas football.
But this is clear: If the Longhorns win out, they’ll be in the College Football Playoff for the second consecutive year, and they could end up on a flight to Atlanta to play for an SEC title and the first-round bye that comes with it.
Here’s a look at the four remaining Longhorns opponents, and the key for Texas to win each game:
Texas vs Florida: Managing turnovers
The Longhorns have a turnover problem.
In eight games, Texas has given the ball away 14 times. Among teams ranked in this week’s US LBM Coaches Poll, only SMU has turned the ball over more frequently.

Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian bemoaned his team’s inability to secure the football Oct. 14, two days after a win over Oklahoma. Since then, his team has given it away six times in two weeks.
Takeaways are the first ingredient to any upset recipe. And after struggling to create them for most of the season, Florida has figured out the formula recently. The Gators turned Tennessee over twice and registered three takeaways in a blowout victory over Kentucky.
“You get what you emphasize,” Florida coach Billy Napier said this week when asked about his team’s improvement in that area. “If we want takeaways to show up on game day, then we have to put takeaway behavior on film.
“Got to keep attacking the ball, and we got to continue working on affecting the quarterback.”
