The University of Florida’s worst nightmare came true in the second quarter of Saturday’s game against the University of Georgia, at Jacksonville’s EverBank Stadium.
After leading the Gators to a 10-3 lead with a thrilling 43-yard touchdown pass to Aidan Mizell, freshman quarterback D.J. Lagway and the UF offense got the ball back later in the second quarter. However, on a first-down run, Lagway was injured (it appeared to be a hamstring) and Aidan Warner, a redshirt freshman, came in at quarterback.

A cart was needed to transport Lagway off the field. The entire Florida team came out to send him off and the air seemingly went out of the end of the field and in the stands.
Warner immediately threw a deep ball that was overthrown, then scrambled for 3 yards before the Gators punted.
Before he left the game, Lagway completed 2 of 6 passes for 47 yards (both to Mizell) and ran four times for 18 yards. He took over the starting quarterback job after Graham Mertz went out for the season against Tennessee.
Lagway and Mertz had been splitting time and Lagway entered the Georgia game with 1,024 yards and five touchdowns passing and 96 yards rushing.
Who is Aidan Warner?
Warner is a 6-foot-3, 206-yard redshirt freshman from Winter Park who transferred to Florida from Yale. He did not play for the Bulldogs and was redshirted in his first year.
Warner walked on to Florida in the spring. He appeared in two games before coming in for Georgia, scoring a 9-yard touchdown against Samford and completing one pass for 20 yards in five snaps against Kentucky.
