BRENTWOOD — Donovan Starr is approaching an important decision.
The four-star Ravenwood senior defensive back is committed to Auburn football, but recent offers from Alabama and Georgia are making the last month before signing day a little trickier. Starr is having to take a closer look at his options.
Former Ravenwood star and current Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Van Jefferson has turned out to be a great resource. Jefferson, a Super Bowl champion with the Rams in 2022, has spoken to Starr at length about the recruitment process.

“He’s been through it at a high level like I am. He’s been a big help,” Starr said. “I talked to him on the phone, he’s up here all the time too. He just told me to take all my visits, sit down with my family and just weigh everything out.”
Jefferson watched Friday as Starr had an interception and 55-yard touchdown in Ravenwood’s 21-3 win over Brentwood for the Region 6-6A championship. The Class 6A No. 1 Raptors (10-0, 5-0) will have a top seed in the TSSAA football playoffs and Brentwood 8-2, 4-1) will be a No. 2.
“Recruiting is hard. You want to make the right decision,” said Jefferson, who is off this weekend following Pittsburgh’s 26-18 win over the New York Giants on Monday. “You have all these coaches throwing all these things at you — and now these days you have NIL. I hope it doesn’t weigh on him too much. I hope he enjoys the process.”
