EDINBORO – As a defensive back, McDowell junior Kameron Bastow has never rushed the quarterback on a blitz during his football career.
The McDowell coaches dialed up his first blitz at the perfect time.
Bastow started the game with a pick-six and put the game away with a sack on fourth down late in the fourth quarter to lead a strong defensive effort as the Trojans defeated Erie High 28-14 for the District 10 Class 6A championship on Friday at General McLane High School.

“I think it wasn’t our best game but our guys kept grinding and pulled it out in the end,” said McDowell first-year coach Aaron Slocum. “We have to play better next week. State College is really well-coached and has really good players so we have to do a better job than we did this week.”
McDowell (7-4) moves on to a PIAA Class 6A subregional against State College at State College High School on Friday at 7 p.m., while Erie ends the season 5-6.
Fast start for McDowell
The Trojans, who won their seventh D-10 title in a row and 14th overall, jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first half. With Erie pinned deep after a long Ashton Sontheimer punt midway through the first quarter, Amir Jones tipped a pass right to Bastow, who went 15 yards for a touchdown.
“It was a great play that turned the tide for us and it was nice to start off on the right foot,” Bastow said. “I have to credit the linebackers as they tipped it to me perfectly. I was at the right place at the right time.”
After an Erie punt, Stephon Porter went 58 yards up the middle untouched to make it 14-0 McDowell.
