Brian Kelly: Jacobian Guillory’s return next season makes LSU football DL ‘a strength’

BATON ROUGE — Getting senior defensive tackle Jacobian Guillory back next season is as much as of a lift for LSU football as anything at this point.

On The Jordy Culotta show late last week, Guillory revealed his decision to come back for a final season at LSU several weeks after suffering a season-ending ruptured Achilles tendon earlier this season.

“I wanted to come back for another season,” he said. “What I fought for at LSU, I can’t let it end like that.

“You don’t want to go out like that, not even for yourself but for my family. They were so hyped up to watch this senior season and watch my last hurrah at LSU.”

Coach Brian Kelly said Monday during his weekly news conference LSU is getting much closer to the traditional strength of the defensive line being one of the pillars of the program.

“He’s a stalwart. He’s a physically gifted player, strong, mature. He brings a presence for us in terms of the leadership part,” Kelly said of Guillory. “And he’s a really good football player, so you’re adding some stability to the defensive line with some really good young players that are getting seasoned this year.

“As much as it was a concern of a question mark coming into this season, I think as we have evolved during the season. With having him back and the guys that have gotten a lot of work at that position and in recruiting, I think we’re going to find that back to being what it should be here at LSU and that’s a strength at that position.”

Guillory, a fifth-year senior with the Tigers, went down against Nicholls State, the second game of the season. Guillory said on the show he should be able to walk without crutches…
