Despite being massive underdogs for the annual matchup in Jacksonville, Florida, the Gators hung around with one of the best teams in college football. However, a first-quarter injury to freshman sensation quarterback DJ Lagway hindered their chance of an upset win.

Lagway’s apparent leg injury was even more hurt than the loss, which required a cart to aid him off the field. The injury was initially believed to be severe and potentially even season-ending. However, Florida coach Billy Napier delivered an update on Lagway’s status on Monday at his weekly press conference, which could delight Florida and college football fans.

At his Monday press conference, Napier updated the status of the star freshman quarterback with some potentially great news for the Gators and their fans. Despite initial fears of a gruesome injury, Lagway has not been ruled out for Saturday’s game against No. 5 Texas in Austin, Texas.
“Injuries are one of the more challenging parts of the profession, coaching and playing,” Napier said. “The good news is we’ve had positive information on that front. That is the positive there. We do think the injury is less significant. We do think there is a pathway to a recovery and a return. … We have not completely ruled him out. A lot of that is to be determined as we move throughout the week.
