OFA methodically marches to Class B Title game

Nov. 3—A foul weather football game with a familar sweet smell of success captapulted OFA past Massena 41-7 in a Class B semi-final football game played in a steady drizzle on Friday night at Ron Johnson Field.

The defending champion and second seeded Blue Devils (7-1) opened a 13-0 halftime lead and scored three third quarter touchdowns to advance to Friday’s championship game against top-seeded Potsdam (8-0) which stayed undefeated with a 26-15 win over Canton.

In the Class C Championship game on Saturday Gouverneur broke away from St. Lawrence Central 53-13.

“The guys played well tonight on offense and defense and we really had a great second half,” said OFA Coach Matt Tessmer after his Blue Devils produced nine double digit runs in the second half led by reserve running back Astryn Grenier who gained 86 yards on seven carries with touchdown runs of 11 yards, 1 yard and 20 yards.

“We decided to give Astryn a look in the second half and he did a great job. He runs very hard.”

Lucca LeBella continued to be the epitomy of running hard gaining 127 yards on 14 carries with a 44-yard run on the first play in the second half.

“Lucca LeBalla gets a lot of attention from everyone we play and he deserves it. He is s difficult to tackle and he opens up opportunities for other players” said Coach Tessmer after the Blue Devils rushed for 323 yards on 42 carries.

Quarterback Madden West took advantage of his opportunites rushing for a 43 yards on five keepers with an eight-yard scoring run with 1:01 remaining in the first half. West (4×6-0 32) also found wing back Urijah Austin with a 14-yard roll-out pass in heavy traffic for the game’s first touchdown and Brooks Garvey followed with the first of six PAT kicks.
