Penn State football team’s report card vs. Ohio State

Quarterbacks

C: Drew Allar wasn’t brilliant, but he accounted for 146 passing yards on 20 attempts and 31 rushing yards.

Running backs

B: Nick Singleton gained a game-high 135 all-purpose yards, including six catches for 54 yards, but he had just six carries.

Receivers

C: Tight end Tyler Warren was productive even though Ohio State focused attention on him. Wide receivers had a total of five catches for 51 yards.

Offensive linemen

C: They struggled to open holes against a top-flight defensive line and allowed two sacks on 23 pass calls.

Defensive linemen

C: Even though Abdul Carter had two sacks, the Buckeyes rushed for 176 yards and a 4.4 average with a makeshift offensive line.

Linebackers

B: Kobe King and Dominic DeLuca were productive, but Tony Rojas got lost on the TD pass to Emeka Egbuka.

Defensive backs

C: Zion Tracy and Zakee Wheatley made big plays, but Elliot Washington II committed a mistake with an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that kept a TD drive alive.

Special teams

B: Penn State finally got some production from its return game. The kickers were solid as Ryan Barker remained perfect.

Coaches

D: The play-calling after Penn State gained a first down at the Ohio State 3 in the fourth quarter was unimaginative and ineffective, whether it was James Franklin or Andy Kotelnicki making the calls.
