Rockledge High football coach placed on administrative leave ahead of playoffs

Rockledge High School football coach Tyrone Giscombe has been placed administrative leave, per Brevard Public Schools communications officer Janet Murnaghan.

Giscombe did not coach in the Raiders’ game last Friday night. Rockledge played Cocoa in the annual BBQ Bowl, won by the Tigers, 37-0.

Murnaghan confirmed in an email that Giscombe will not be available to coach in the team’s playoff game Nov. 15.

“The football coach is on administrative leave and will not be coaching at the upcoming game,” Murnaghan said.

The FHSAA football playoff schedules have not yet been released.

Giscombe is in his first season as head coach for Rockledge. He took over for Wayne Younger, who left his position as head coach after the 2023 season.

Giscombe previously coached defense for the Raiders, but he also played defense at Cocoa under former coach John Wilkinson, who won four state titles for the Tigers. While Giscombe has been a defensive specialist on the sidelines, he also coached receivers at Viera in 2017 and ’18.

In his first season in charge of the Raiders, Giscombe led the team to 6-3 regular season record and a district championship title.
