Embarrassing is the only way to describe the product Texas A&M ran onto the field at William-Brice Stadium on Saturday night. The Aggies’ winning streak was broken when they dropped their first SEC game of the season 44-20, falling to 7-1 and 5-1 in SEC play.
It’s not the end of the world, and if they win out, there is a good chance Texas A&M will make the SEC title game and enter the college football playoffs.
However, the key attribute of a Mike Elko team staying in the hotel was that A&M did not look like a tougher team at any point in the game. Some of it was on the coaches not putting the players in the best positions, but there were too many player errors. The tackling was atrocious, and they continued to stack costly drive-extending penalties all game.
Also, at this point, it might make sense for Klein to move to a two-quarterback system. Marcel Reed and Conner Wiegman have both been hit or miss, with Reed’s dual-threat ability giving him the start on Saturday.
He didn’t play horribly, but in the second quarter, we had two turnovers, which led A&M to zero points in the half. Losing Le’Veon Moss to start the game hurt the power running game, and offensive coordinator Collen Klein didn’t have the adjustments to get past the South Carolina defense.
Below are the players who shinned and disappointed in the loss on Saturday night.
