It’s the start of a new era (yet again) in college football. The College Football Playoff was finally ushered in back during the 2014 season, but it had only been four teams (masked as an “and-one”) invited to the party up until this season.
Now, we get to have a real playoff with 12-teams for more fun and more twists and turns, not to mention, more meaningful games late in the season. Many have, and will continue, to disagree with the format or how teams qualify for the new and improved CFP, but either way, it should be refreshing, fun, and compelling.
The first College Football Playoff Rankings are set to drop on Tuesday, and for the first time, we will be very interested in how things look further down the rankings because it will have a huge impact on what teams get the invite to breaking the seal on this thing. And while nobody really knows how it will go and we’ve seen the CFP Committee do some pretty wild things and go astray from the traditional polls, we like to try and figure it all out.
So, for the first time this season, we’re embarking on a quest to try and figure out what the top 12 teams might be in the first unveil of the College Football Playoff Rankings on Tuesday night. You can bet that the usual suspects like Oregon, Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, Texas, and more will be in the mix, but keep in mind that conference champions get an automatic bye, and then it’s an at-large selection process. So, it’s not as easy as drawing a line after the top 12 teams, but most of the teams will be taken from that population.
