The Jacksonville Jaguars signed Gipson to a one-year contract for the 2024 season but cut him Monday, prompting the 49ers to quickly make a move on the 34-year-old.
Gibson joined the 49ers in 2022 and was later added to the practice squad before being promoted to their active roster soon after. He then re-signed with the team for the 2023 season.
In 2023, he recorded 60 total tackles, three for loss, one sack, one interception and three passes defensed in 16 games for San Francisco.
He hasn’t appeared in a game this season due to a six-game suspension for violating the league’s performance-enhancing substance policy.
