Arkansas football is leaving no stone unturned in its quest to cure the pass defense woes that have exploded in recent weeks.
The Razorbacks (5-4, 3-3 SEC) allowed Ole Miss to throw for 562 yards in a 63-31 loss Saturday. Over the last three weeks, quarterbacks are completing 74% of their passes and averaging 368.7 passing yards per game. They don’t tell the story of the entire season, but those numbers would rank dead last in the country.
Along with trying to get healthy, fixing the secondary is the biggest focus of the bye week for head coach Sam Pittman.

“I think we have to look at all things. How we’re coaching it. The coverages that we’re playing. The people that we’re asking to play those coverages, and we certainly have given that a good look and have made some changes there to see if we can get better,” Pittman said.
After the game against Ole Miss, Pittman indicated the Razorbacks might have been tipping plays with their pre-snap alignment. The Rebels operating with a slower pace played a part in Pittman’s belief.
Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin downplayed the lack of tempo during a Monday press conference, attributing the Rebels offensive pace to shorter drives that were typically just three or four plays. However, Pittman believes Arkansas may have identified the issues in its film review of the loss.
“We found a couple of things,” Pittman said. “There were a lot of checks. Not as much fastball as what we thought we might get from Ole Miss. We certainly did find a few things that we need to correct and went back and did an extensive study there and found a couple of things that we need to get fixed.”
