Larry Williams is stepping down as the Hinds Community College football coach, according to a program announcement.
Williams has been a coach for the Eagles since 2013 and the head coach since 2017, compiling a 38-32 record. He also was on the coaching staff from 2003 to 2009.
“Larry Williams has played a key role in the life of our football program for many years, and he has left an indelible mark on those who have known him,” Hinds President Dr. Stephen Vacik said in a statement. “His commitment to player success both off and on the field has helped so many young men realize their potential and achieve a better life. Though he is stepping away from the program, Coach Williams will always remain a member of the Hinds family, and I thank him for his investment in the mission of our college.”
Hinds said it will conduct a national coaching search.
The Eagles went 2-7 this season, their third straight season with a record below .500. Before that, Hinds had a few strong seasons under Williams, such as a 6-3 record in 2017, a 7-2 record in 2019, a 3-1 mark in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season and a high mark of 9-3 in 2021.
