BATON ROUGE — LSU football rested up and enjoyed its second and final off week of the 2024 regular season last weekend and was still able to move up the in college football rankings as a few teams in front of them lost.
Clemson fell to Louisville, Texas A&M was stomped by South Carolina and Iowa State was tripped up by Texas Tech.
How much correlation is there for the No. 13 Tigers (6-2, 3-1 SEC), who are gearing up to play a de facto College Football Playoff elimination game against rival No. 11 Alabama (6-2, 3-2), moving up in the polls and their bowl game projections?

Most predicted: LSU to Gator Bowl
The Gator Bowl was the most predicted landing spot for the Tigers this bowl season from analysts before a short shift last week to the Music City Bowl. It looks like it’s coming around again onto LSU playing in the Gator Bowl (Jan. 2, 7:30 p.m., ESPN).
ESPN’s Mark Schlabach, Athlon Sports and College Football News all see the Tigers in Jacksonville, Florida. LSU hasn’t played in the Gator Bowl since 1987.
Most common bowl game matchup: LSU vs SMU/Minnesota
Predictions indicate the Tigers will see either an ACC or a Big Ten team this bowl season.
College Football News and Athlon Sports both predict an LSU-SMU matchup in the Gator Bowl. ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura has LSU facing Minnesota in the Music City Bowl (Dec. 30, 2:30 p.m., ESPN) while USA Today has LSU taking on Minnesota in the Citrus Bowl (Dec. 31, 3 p.m., ABC).
