STILLWATER — Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy issued an apology on social media in the aftermath of his comments Monday that angered many across the fanbase.
“I apologize to those who my comments during Monday’s media call offended,” Gundy posted late Tuesday night on X, formerly Twitter. “My intent was not to offend any of our fans who have supported us and this program through the years.”
Gundy’s comments during a long response to a question during his weekly news conference — which was held via Zoom because of weather concerns — insinuated that unhappy fans of the program are “weak” and “can’t pay their own bills,” later adding that they are “the same failure that they were before they said anything negative about anybody else.”
The fanbase, in large part, was united in its displeasure toward Gundy’s comments as the story began to spread Monday afternoon.

Gundy’s roughly 30-minute news conference involved several questions about the state of the OSU program as it trudges through a six-game losing streak, the longest such streak in Gundy’s 20-year tenure.
This is the second time in recent months that Gundy has had to walk back public comments, the first coming in July when discussing the DUI arrest of running back Ollie Gordon II.
“Well I thought, ‘I’ve probably did that 1,000 times in my life.’ Which is fine. I got lucky, people get lucky,” he told ESPNU in a live interview during Big 12 Media Days in Las Vegas.
Gundy later clarified the statement, again on X, by saying: “My intended point today at Big 12 media days was that we are all guilty of making bad decisions. It was not a reference to something specific.”
Gundy and the Cowboys go on the road to face TCU at 6 p.m. Saturday at Amon G. Carter Stadium…
