Seven seniors from conference champion Watertown earn AA All-ESD football honors

Seven players from conference champion Watertown and three from Aberdeen Central have been selected to the 2024 Class AA All-Eastern South Dakota Conference football team.

Twenty-seven players earned All-ESD honors, as chosen by the league’s’s coaches. Watertown went 5-0 in league play.

Seven seniors — running back Spencer Wientjes, offensive linemen Micah Hach and Karter Engels, wide receiver Mitch Olson, linebacker Kaden Decker, defensive lineman Jayden Lambert and defensive back Jeremiah Schulte — each made the squad from Watertown. Hach (defensive line), Wientjes (linebacker) and Schulte (defensive back) are repeat honorees from 2023.

Despite missing two games, Wientjes has rushed for 554 yards and nine touchdowns this season. Olson has 23 catches for 463 yards and eight touchdowns. Decker has recorded 59 tackles with an interception, Lambert 24 with an interception and Schulte 51 with three interceptions. Decker and Lambert have each scored defensive TDs.

The 6-foot-5, 300-pound Hach and 6-6, 290-pound Engels lead a huge offensive line for the Arrows (8-2), who are set to host Brookings in a state Class 11AA semifinal game at 7 p.m. Friday at Watertown Stadium.

Aberdeen Central honorees are senior offensive lineman Ryker Meister, senior defensive back Cordel Rychlik and junior defensive lineman Felipe Gonzalez. The Golden Eagles finished 3-7 overall and 1-5 in the ESD.
