ALIQUIPPA — With the high school football postseason coming to a close and the early National Signing Day for football approaching, Aliquippa running back and Penn State commit Tiqwai Hayes has officially shut down his recruitment Thursday morning.
Hayes committed to Penn State in Sept. 2023 after holding several offers from Power 4 schools, most notably from Pitt, Ohio State, Michigan and Wisconsin.

After he committed to Penn State last year, the now senior running back had Penn State running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider and head coach James Franklin in attendance during the Quips’ 2023 PIAA state title run.
Hayes rushed for two first-half touchdowns with Seider in attendance, while rushing for 220 yards and three touchdowns one week later with his future head coach in attendance as Aliquippa captured its fifth state title in program history.
Aliquippa’s Tiqwai Hayes (23) runs the ball up the middle of the field while being pursued by Belle Vernon’s Kole Doppelheuer (1) in the first quarter of the Quips Week 1 game against the Leopards at Heinz Field in Aliquippa Pa.
This season while battling some injuries that sidelined him for a few games, the running back has rushed for 933 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground.
Now with Hayes’ recruitment fully shut down, the senior running back can fully focus on Aliquippa’s quest for its fourth consecutive WPIAL Class 4A title as it takes on top-seeded Thomas Jefferson Friday at 7 p.m. at Chartiers Valley High School.
Hayes can officially sign to Penn State starting on Dec. 4, 2024, when the early National Signing period opens for NCAA football Division I and Division II athletes.
