For the first time since the 2015 season, Tiger Stadium will feature a live tiger on the sidelines for an LSU home football game. As if going into Baton Rouge isn’t already one of the toughest environments in the sport, they will also have one of the most terrifying animals on earth on the sidelines for the playoff-eliminating game against Alabama this weekend.
LSU’s tradition of having a Tiger on the field goes back decades, but it ultimately ended in 2015 after Mike VI’s death. The decision to bring the tiger back to the sideline this Saturday was mostly made by the state’s governor, Jeff Landry. However, many people around the University have expressed displeasure on behalf of the animal.
So, I wouldn’t get my hopes up about an elephant coming to Tuscaloosa anytime soon.
The Crimson Tide enter Saturday’s contest as 2.5-point favorite over No. 15 LSU, but Alabama typically fares rather well in Baton Rouge as they have won in five of their previous six trips. Playing at Tennessee and Neyland Stadium is no joke, but Kalen DeBoer’s first visit to Death Valley is something he will never forget.
