The Greenies have been on the wrong side of some high-stakes games in recent seasons.
On Thursday night, Fort Myers flipped the script with a dominant second-half performance to deny Riverdale from winning the Class 5A-11 title outright.
With Fort Myers, Riverdale, and North Fort Myers all tied atop the standings, the district champion will be revealed when the FHSAA releases playoff brackets on Friday night.
Whatever the outcome, Fort Myers proved something coming off a loss to Dunbar in which the Greenies’ second-half comeback fell short.
“I saw something last week second half against Dunbar,” head coach Sam Sirianni Jr. said. “Sometimes, in a painful lesson, you find something.”
The Raiders were up for the challenge from the start, playing stifling defense and getting on the scoreboard first with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Theo Harris Jr. to Lovensky Blanchard.

Fort Myers had an immediate response when Fred Jackson reversed field multiple times to outrun the Riverdale defense for a 63-yard score.
The teams continued to go back and forth with the Raiders scoring on a Harris sneak, and the Greenies getting in the end zone with a 3-yard Madrid Tucker run to take a 14-13 lead just before halftime.
Fort Myers looked like a different team in the second half, finding more rhythm offensively and making big plays on defense.
