Michigan football injury report vs. Indiana: Will Johnson out for third straight game

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — As expected, Michigan football will once again be shorthanded.

The Wolverines are without eight players in today’s clash against undefeated Indiana (3:30 p.m., CBS), that includes star cornerback Will Johnson, according to the pregame availability report teams are required to provide the Big Ten Conference two hours before kickoff.

Johnson, a projected first-round NFL draft selection, is out for the third consecutive week as he continues to nurse a foot injury. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound cornerback who also missed the Minnesota game, has appeared in just five full games and the first quarter of a 21-7 loss at Illinois where he sustained his most recent injury and hasn’t played since.

Late last month on the heels of U-M’s 24-17 rivalry win over MSU, the question came up if Johnson was “protecting his draft status” which head coach Sherrone Moore shut down at the time.

“Oh, yeah, Will is not — Will has no plan of just shutting it down or anything like that,” Moore said Oct. 28 at Schembechler Hall. “Will, if he could go out there would go out there in a heartbeat. I know that he’ll be back out there at some point this season, whether it’s this week, next week, whenever that is.”

Johnson has 14 tackles, three passes deflected and two interceptions, both of which were returned for touchdowns, on the year.
