Oklahoma State football grades vs TCU: Brennan Presley only bright spot for Cowboys

Oklahoma State won’t be going to a bowl.

If the Cowboys keep playing the way they did Saturday, they won’t be winning any more games either.

TCU 38, OSU 13.

On a night the Cowboys were mathematically eliminated from bowl eligibility, breaking a streak of 18 consecutive bowls, there wasn’t much that they did well. Not on offense. Not on defense. Not even on special teams.

Let’s get to the grades.

Offense: D

Yes, the Cowboys showed some signs of life and creativity in the second half — give it up for the Ollie-Cat! — but the offense was so inept in the first half that it dug too big a hole for this team to overcome. The offense had managed only 89 yards at halftime, 45 passing and 44 rushing, and it had more turnovers (two) than points (zero).

Terrible.

That allowed TCU to build a 24-0 lead that OSU wasn’t going to be able to overcome.

OSU’s drives in the first half ended this way: three-and-out punt, fumble, interception, punt, end of half.

Defense: F

The only reason the OSU offense gets a D is because it wasn’t as bad as the defense, which absolutely earned an F. At one point, it gave up touchdowns on five consecutive possessions on drives that covered 63, 68, 76, 69 and 75 yards.

Resistance was minimal.

One of the few good things about the Cowboy defense was that it didn’t allow quite as many rushing yards as it has in recent weeks. The Horned Frogs only had 175, compared to the nearly 250 rushing yards the Cowboys were allowing on average entering the game.
