Two Top 5 losses lets Longhorns leap to No. 3 in AP Top 25

Texas Longhorns wide receiver Matthew Golden (2) catches a pass to score the first touchdown of the game for Texas during the first quarter of the Longhorns’ game against the Florida Gators, Nov. 9, 2024 at Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin.

Three seems to be the magic number this week. After loses to Top 5 teams Georgia and Miami, the Texas Longhorns have jumped from No. 5 to No. 3 in the latest AP Top 25 Ranking. UT is also No. 3 in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll.

The Longhorns again looked like the best team in the conference by crushing Florida 49-17 in Austin Saturday. Texas has looked wobbly for a few weeks after a strong start to the season.

Meanwhile, Georgia and Miami each plummeted down the rankings after losses to Ole Miss and Georgia Tech respectively.

Unbeaten Oregon remains No. 1 in the country after handling Maryland. Ohio State moves up to No. 2 after destroying Purdue in Columbus. Penn State and Indiana round out the Top 5. The Hoosiers remain undefeated after handing Michigan its fifth loss of the season.

Ole Miss was the big rising this week, climbing six spots to No. 10 in the poll. LSU dropped seven spots after a season defining loss to Alabama.
