Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Will Howard (18) reacts after running for a first down late in the second half of the NCAA football game against the Penn State Nittany Lions at Beaver Stadium in University Park, Pa. on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024. Ohio State won 20-13.
The Ohio State Buckeyes sat third in the country in most polls coming into a home battle with Purdue Saturday. Ohio State came out on top 45-0 against the side that had yet to win a Big Ten game this season.
That said, the Coaches Poll had the Buckeyes third, as did the AP Poll. Now, there was some excitement around Ohio State coming in at No. 2 in the College Football Playoff rankings.
With a new set of polls to set expectations from coming up in the next few days, the Buckeyes should be firmly set at No. 2. Why? Well, not only did No. 2 Georgia lose but so did No. 4 Miami.
The Bulldogs entered their road battle as a favorite, so their 28-10 loss certainly wasn’t expected. Winning on the road in any major conference, as the Buckeyes found out against Oregon a few weeks ago, isn’t easy.
The Buckeyes will firmly be No. 2 with the Ducks firmly No. 1. Ohio State will have Northwestern on the road next weekend.
Following that battle, it will take on No. 10 Indiana, which beat Michigan Saturday and could be a top-eight team in the country. The Hoosiers are one of just three undefeated top-25 teams.
