IU commit Davion Chandler’s pitch to in-state players: ‘How would you want to be anywhere else?’

Lawrence North senior receiver Davion Chandler, who was wearing an IU handwarmer for Friday night’s 24-7 sectional championship victory over Cathedral, is locked into his commitment to Indiana.

“I’m not going anywhere else,” Chandler said. “I’m stuck at home.”

The speedster had three catches for 43 yards in Friday’s game to push his season totals to 42 receptions for 851 yards. But Chandler is not limiting himself to trying to help Class 6A top-ranked Lawrence North (11-0) to its first regional title this week at No. 4 Brownsburg (10-1). He is also playing the role of recruiter for the Hoosiers’ 2025 recruiting class, which currently has 20 commits.

‘Just been waiting my turn.’ Unlikely hero leads No. 1 LN to sectional title

Lawrence North Wildcats wide receiver Davion Chandler (8) celebrates a tackle Friday, Nov. 8, 2024, during a sectional championship game between Lawrence North and Cathedral at Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis.

Indiana, ranked No. 6 in the country and 10-0 after Saturday’s win over Michigan, should be an attractive destination for in-state recruits, Chandler said.

“To me, this should be a message to every kid in Indiana,” he said. “How would you want to be anywhere else?”

IU has in-state commitments from Chandler, Carmel offensive lineman Evan Parker, Kokomo tight end Andrew Barker and Bloomington South kicker Bryce Taylor. But there is some belief the Hoosiers could get a commitment from Warren Central defensive end Tyrone Burrus Jr., who is committed to Louisville but visited Bloomington last month for the win over Nebraska and again for the Michigan game on Saturday.
