How Texas A&M is keeping the focus amid College Football Playoff chase

COLLEGE STATION —Texas A&M football redshirt freshman punter shared a message Monday as the Aggies prepare for a key Week 12 game.

“We are looking at ourselves right now and worried about this week and this practice… Outside noise doesn’t matter,” White told reporters Monday.

White has done his part for the Aggies with 19 punts inside the 20-yard line this season. He said his head coach doesn’t want his team getting ahead of itself as it fights for a College Football Playoff spot.

“Coach (Elko) has everyone dialed into what we need to do to succeed,” White said.

The No. 15 Aggies (7-2, 5-1 SEC) still control their destiny coming out of the bye week and New Mexico State is up next. With losses from teams ranked in front of and around them like Georgia, Miami, and LSU, the recipe for the college football playoff is clear as day for Texas A&M: win and you’re in.

“We don’t have any margin, and we have to go. It’s time to go,” Elko said.

Here are some takeaways from Elko’s comments Monday during his weekly conference with reporters:

Moving forward without RB Le’Veon Moss

Following the Aggies’ loss to South Carolina two weeks ago, Elko confirmed that running back Le’Veon Moss is out for the rest of the season due to a lower leg injury. Moss averaged just shy of 15 carries in the first eight games of the season, and now A&M is tasked with replacing the protection.

How they plan to do so is something the coach was unwilling to expand upon Monday.

“A lot of things are on the table. Losing Le’Veon (Moss) is a big loss. That’s a lot of touches,” Elko said. “We have to figure out the right way to handle that. There are a lot of options for us to go about that.”

Texas A&M coach Mike Elko said his team has no margin for error with season-defining games…
