Reactions: Gerry Faust remembered as legend, coach at Moeller HS, Notre Dame and Akron

High school and college football fans are mourning the loss of Gerry Faust, the former head coach at Moeller High School, University of Notre Dame and University of Akron who died at age 89.

Faust was born in Dayton, Ohio, and played quarterback for the Flyers. He led Moeller to a record of 178-23-2 as the Crusaders’ head coach from 1962 to 1980.

At Notre Dame, his record was 30-26-1 in five seasons, from 1981 to 1985. He coached the Zips from 1986 to 1994.

Former Fighting Irish star and Heisman Trophy winner Tim Brown was among those remembering Faust on social media late Monday:

Both former USC coach John Robinson and former ND coach Gerry Faust passed away today, both at the age of 89, which is eerie.
