With Jordan Mailata expected back, Eagles release Jack Stoll originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia
In a sign that Jordan Mailata is likely ready to return to action, the Eagles on Tuesday released veteran backup offensive lineman Jack Stoll.
The Eagles opened Mailata’s practice window on Monday after he spent the last four weeks on Injured Reserve with a hamstring injury suffered in the fourth quarter of the Browns game.
Stoll was originally the Eagles’ 4th-round pick in 2020 and he played in 54 games with 17 starts from 2020 through 2023. He began his college career in 2016 at UMass and played his final two years at Auburn.
He signed in March as a free agent with the Dolphins but was released with final cuts on Aug. 28 and re-signed with the Eagles on the practice squad on Sept. 3.
He was a game-day elevation against the Browns and Giants and then signed to the 53-man roster on Oct. 23 and played the last three games, including 14 snaps on offense in the fourth quarter Sunday in Dallas in a blowout win.
Stoll, 27, will likely be back on the practice squad at some point. The Eagles like his versatility and ability to play back up both guard and tackle.
Mailata, a 7th-round pick in 2018, was listed as a projected full participant Monday if the Eagles had a practice, which they didn’t, but that was an encouraging sign considering his long layoff.
He’s been the Eagles starting left tackle since 2020 and was having his finest season yet when he got hurt.
Fred Johnson has started the last four games at left tackle, but it appears Mailata should be ready to go when the Eagles face the Commanders at the Linc on Thursday night in a national TV game.
Stoll’s release leaves Jalen Hurts as the only member of the Eagles’ 2020 draft class still with the team.
