Brian Sneed is no longer the Pope Saint John Paul II Preparatory School football coach.
Sneed informed his team of the change Tuesday, according to a message obtained by The Tennessean, which was sent to football parents by JPII athletics director David Uyl.
“Brian Sneed will no longer serve as the head football coach at JPII. He informed the team of the change this afternoon during a team meeting,” Uyl wrote. “Brian is a man of great faith and integrity, and we appreciate his hard work and dedication to the young men in the program as their head coach over the past three years and as assistant coach for many years prior. We will begin a search for a new head football coach in the immediate future.”
The Knights went 4-7 this past season, losing to Lausanne in the Division II-AA first round of the TSSAA football playoffs.
Sneed, a 2006 JPII graduate and former multi-sport athlete for the Knights, went 15-19 overall in three seasons. He was promoted from his defensive coordinator position to replace former coach Justin Geisinger in 2022, after Geisinger became the Franklin Road Academy coach.

Before his promotion, Sneed had been a teacher and football coach at JPII off and on since 2012. He spent 2013-15 at his college alma mater Centre College as a football assistant before returning to JPII in 2016 as an assistant athletics director and assistant football coach.
The Knights are 7-15 since moving down to DII-AA before the 2023 season.
