Is hosting ESPN College GameDay a curse in 2024?

ESPN College GameDay has become iconic. It is the pregame show most college football fans watch. It’s the morning show most shared, quoted, memed. And the show’s ratings are higher than ever, averaging more than 2 million viewers each week.

As big of a hit as the show is on TV, it’s even bigger for the home fans that get up early to view the show live experience the best tailgate party ever. The signs fans bring go viral and searching for the best on Twitter is a Saturday morning tradition.

Adding Nick Saban and Pat McAfee were genius moves. Both have added to the show as Lee Corso winds down his career.

When College GameDay rolled through Austin for the Georgia game on Oct. 19, it was a blast. The show set up behind the Littlefield Fountain with the UT Tower and a sea of fans as the backdrop. Former Texas Longhorns golfer and multi majors winner Scottie Scheffler was the guest picker.

But while Longhorns fans will have great memories from that morning, that night turned into a nightmare as the Georgia Bulldogs steamrolled Texas 30-15. As much fun as the show was, Texas fans would gladly trade the party for a win.

Texas isn’t the only host to go down this year. In fact, the first four College GameDay hosts (not counting Dublin, Ireland in Week 0) all lost. The Aggies lost to Notre Dame in Week 1.
